Should Everton challenge Watford for Sunderland’s Ndong as N’Zonzi alternative?

Everton have opened talks with Sevilla about the prospect of signing Steven N’Zonzi in the January transfer window, with the Liverpool Echo reporting the midfielder will cost around £25m.
N’Zonzi is someone that Toffees manager Sam Allardyce knows well, having brought him to English football back in 2009 when he signed the Frenchman for Blackburn Rovers from Amiens.

The 29-year-old went on to play for Stoke City before leaving for Sevilla two-and-a-half years ago, since winning the Europa League, but it is now rumoured the former Blackburn star could return to England.
However, if it is a defensively minded midfield player Allardyce seeks, should he consider looking to one of his former clubs in the shape of Sunderland?
Ndong may have been part of the team relegated from the Premier League last season, but the 23-year-old could still have much to offer having perhaps been hampered by those around him and would also costs significantly less than N’Zonzi.
